He may have only been competing for just two years, but it’s clear to see that Jordan Springs student Axton Glendenning is a natural when it comes to cheer and dance.

The 11-year-old, who dances for You Can Dance (YCD) in Emu Plains, is a member of the successful team that recently won a 2020 Pinnacle Bid to compete at The Summit Championships at Disneyworld Orlando in May next year.

Axton’s YCD teammates won the 2019 State Titles just last month and are the current National Titlists, having won last year. They will defend the National Title next month in what is expected to be a fiercely fought competition.

The ambitious local has also secured a place at the Nepean Creative and Performing Arts School in Emu Plains next year. His audition consisted of a contemporary dance routine and, although he didn’t have a lot of experience in this style, he impressed the panel.

“The best thing I enjoy about dance and cheer is the friends that I’ve made. I like competing with my teammates and coaches. I especially love flipping and tumbling” said an excited Axton.

With his sights set firmly on competing at The Summit Championships in the US next year, Axton’s goal now is to raise funds for the trip overseas with his family. A golf day and trivia night are being planned for later in the year.
