Emu Plains Little Athletics Club have just completed a huge season, continuing to show why they are one of the most successful junior sporting clubs in the Penrith district.

Season 2022/23 saw approximately 500 athletes, including their popular Tiny Tots program, represent the club in athletics.

With the disruptions of COVID and poor weather well behind them, the mighty Emus had many highlights on the track and field this year.

“We had a great return to normal competition, after the COVID period, with strong representation at Zone, Regional and State Carnivals. The club had 18 Athletes compete at State, with many winning medals in their events” explained Grant Haydon, President of Emu Plains Little Athletics Club.

“We introduced a brand new club uniform and added representative uniform items. We also introduced a record breaking reward. Every athlete who broke a record at a club or representative level received a $50 Rebel gift voucher to assist them with buying sporting equipment. There were nearly 20 records broken this season, which is a record in itself!” he continued.

Grant has accomplished his first year as President of Emu Plains Little Athletics Club, after taking over the reins from Kellie Martin.

“Being President of a large sporting club is a very rewarding role. The most challenging part is trying to keep everyone happy, whilst providing the best possible outcome for the kids. I’ve had a small but devoted Committee assisting me, so it’s been a great experience most of the time. It’s always fantastic to see athletes succeed and know you’ve played a small part in their development” Grant reflected.

The club’s annual presentations took place last month, bringing together athletes, committee members, family, and friends to celebrate their success.

“We took a different approach this year, moving away from a formal night. This year we decided to have it (club presentation) upon the grounds of Nepean High School with jumping castles, face painting and a BBQ lunch. The weather was not kind to us, but we’ve received great feedback from members saying that they’d prefer that format again next year” he affirmed.

Registrations for 2023/24 will open in a few short months and there is already interest from the local community.

“We’re already getting enquiries regarding next season, which is a great sign. The registration portal will open next season on 1st August 2023” ended Grant.
