This month, the local community will come together for the 2019 Oran Park Ganesh Festival, which will be held at the Sandown Rooms at Oran Park Library on Saturday the 7th September from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

The third-year celebrations will include cultural activities like Indian songs, dances and dramas followed by lunch and Ganesh Visarjan. There will also be Ganesh Pooja (prayer ritual). You will be able to experience Indian culture involving colourful sarees, traditional Indian attire, delicious Indian food, devotional and Bollywood song and dance, all at the very heart of Oran Park.

“The most exciting part about Ganesh Chathurthi is the celebration and the festive food that excites many Hindus. In India, Ganesh is worshipped for the whole 11 days for wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. Life-like colourful clay Ganesh idols are erected on the streets with pompous music and dances seen during processions. At homes, families gather to worship small Ganesh Idols by decorating them with fruits and flowers and offer various sweets and foods” said Oran Park Ganesh Festival’s Sridhar Inavolu.

“Festivals like these showcase the uniqueness and pride of its residents and strengthen their sense of belonging in the local community” ended Sridhar.
