They say that the greatness of a community is measured by the compassionate actions of its members. This can certainly be said about the Wollondilly Shire, in particular local groups like the Warradale Men’s Shed.
The Warradale Men’s Shed is a dedicated group of men, including retirees, who have a range of experience in trades and professions that come together to volunteer their time for various woodwork/metal work projects. Many of these projects are done for the community for little to no charge. Importantly, it’s also a group where members can bond and discuss men’s health with one another.
“With the drought and being fully retired, I felt that I was not contributing or achieving anything. I joined the Shed at an open day last year. I soon found that I could put my professional knowledge to work to help them and dabble in wood working using my hands. I’ve now made many friends and feel right at home” said Michael Davis, Warradale Men’s Shed member.
One of their current local projects is making bird and animal nesting boxes for the Buxton Community Corridor Regeneration Project established by Geraldine Cox, whilst another is making stools and tables for the Cedar Creek Markets from recycled pine pallets.
They make and repair various timber and metal items on request for members of the community. They also help when needed with jobs like repairing fences for pensioners and carpentry. Items that they make can be purchased at the Shed at various costs or donations too.
“The Shed is for men over the age of 18, particularly those who are retired or have the time during the working week.
We welcome new members. Men can sit and talk or can get involved in shed activities, whatever they fancy. We have COVID safe practices. Turn up during opening hours and check it out” explained Michael.
The Warradale Men’s Shed is located at 10 Eighteenth Street, Warragamba (opposite Warragamba Workers Club).
They open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The group are a not-for-profit organisation with a small annual membership fee and a donation of $2 each time you come to the shed.
