Mother’s Day is a time to reflect, recognise and thank mothers and grandmothers across the country for all that they do. Their selfless acts and love that they share bind our families together. Glenmore Park resident Vivienne Ross is one such mum and a true, unsung hero.

Vivienne, who has two children and four stepchildren, works tirelessly as the Leader of The Nepean Blue Mountains Parkinson’s Support Group. She has been a member of the local group for 14 years and became the Leader 8 years ago.

“My husband Barry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2007. I got involved with the group then and began learning as much as I could about the disease” explained Vivienne to the Glenmore Gazette.

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative brain disorder that progresses slowly in most people. There are a variety of symptoms that can take many years to develop. People living with Parkinson’s Disease will continue to live for years after diagnosis.

As the Leader of The Nepean Blue Mountains Parkinson’s Support Group, Vivienne is involved with coordinating all their activities. This includes formal meetings, four face-to-face dance classes, two Zoom dance classes and voice exercise singalongs each month.

Vivienne formed the Glenmore Park Carers Group in 2019 and is also a member of Penrith Dementia Alliance and the Anglicare Dementia Service in Penrith.

“I’m committed to spreading awareness about Parkinson’s Disease. I want to educate as many people as I can about it” said Vivienne.

“If you have Parkinson’s Disease or are a family member supporting someone with this, you are welcome to join our group. We want to reach out and show our support” Vivienne added.
