It’s been the local for the residents of Emu Plains and Leonay for decades, and now Emu Plains Sporting and Recreation Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Whilst the golf course opened in 1939, the Sports Club was officially licenced in 1969, back when John Gorton was Prime Minister, The Beatles did their last live performance, and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.

Locally, Emu Plains had only just transferred from Blue Mountains Council to Penrith City Council six years before and the opening of the F4 Freeway Bridge over the Nepean River was still four years away.

Since then, the Club has been an integral part of the local community. Emu Sports Club’s CEO, Andrew Gardner said, “We are truly a community Club. The Club wouldn’t be here today if not for the support of our members and the local community. It’s a relationship we appreciate, as the support we receive means that we, in turn, can keep giving back, and continue to support local schools, charities, community groups and sporting groups”.

Celebrations for the anniversary have been planned for each Saturday in May. “We have a lot planned, from cash giveaways, a family holiday to the Gold Coast and a 50% discount night in the bistro, culminating with our Gala Day on 25th May” continued Mr Gardner. “We also have a golf day and celebration dinner on Friday 17th May” he added.
