Glenmore Park’s Elle Wakeham may have only just taken up Irish Dancing just six months ago, however the 7-year-old is already proving to be a natural.

Elle, who attends the Penrith Gaels Maher School of Irish Dance each week, entered the AIDA St Patrick’s Day Feis in March. Despite this being her first competitive dance experience and a day filled with nerves, Elle received an Adjudicator’s Medal for her performance.

“Elle took up Irish Dancing in October last year. The great thing with her dance school is that you can join at any time of the year. There are different levels in Irish Dancing, starting with the beginner’s level and you can move through them at your own pace” explained Rebecca Wakeham, Elle’s Mother.

“She was watching The Wiggles on TV with her younger sister and saw Lachy and Emma Irish Dancing. That’s when Elle said she was interested in trying it” she added.

When it comes to Irish Dancing, Elle enjoys the music, getting dressed up for the competitions in the beautifully designed dresses and the social aspect of the sport.

“Her dance teacher, Maria, has created a caring and supportive environment. This has helped Elle to develop confidence performing in front of others and to persevere with learning the fast-paced steps of Irish Dancing” said Rebecca.
