A local family have come together to form Team Devine and will be participating in Parkinson’s NSW 12th Unity Walk in the Park, taking place on Sunday 25th August at Sydney Park in St Peters, whilst raising valuable funds for charity.

Jim Devine, of Emu Plains, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2009. Jim’s daughter Lisa Berwick has organised an Everyday Hero donation site to raise funds for the disease and to help make a difference.

Unity Walk in the Park is the annual fundraising initiative of Parkinson’s NSW, to support vital research and services for people living with Parkinson’s.

The Unity Walk aims to bring people together to show support for loved ones and remember those touched by Parkinson’s. Over the past 11 years, this event has raised over $1,000,000 thanks to the efforts of more than 16,700 participants.

“My Dad is a Parkinson’s sufferer and for many years, my family have participated in the Parkinson’s Unity Walk. We started when my son, Jack, was a baby and continue walking to raise awareness for this cause. I would love to find a cure in my lifetime and continue to raise funds for research, support groups and therapists for those in need. We would greatly appreciate any support you might be able to give. No amount is too small, and all donations contribute in a meaningful way” said Lisa.

Jim and wife Cheryl are also both members of the Lions Club of Emu Plains and support many charities and charitable causes. This includes DonateLife, the organ transplant initiative. Their granddaughter Kyla received a liver transplant when she was just 4 months old. Earlier this year, Kyla joined the Penrith Panthers and Ivan Cleary to spread the word when Team Devine visited the Panthers Academy. Lions will raise awareness of organ and tissue donation in DonateLife Week from 28th July to 4th August.
